Access to the yacht dock from the sea
The Port of Ventspils can be recognised by the high church steeple that is located in the centre of the city, the south side of the river. The average speed of the river current is 1 knot that accelerates up to 2 knots by the entrance. Alongside the coast the current flows towards the entrance of the port northwards or southwards depending on the wind direction.
The Northwest access channel leads towards south-east from the illuminated buoy “B” (57°28’.52 N; 21°25’.91 E) to the Ventspils outport that is protected by two piers located on the north and south sides respectively. When entering the port turn towards the fishing port and the yacht dock – it is located on the south side of the River Venta (on the left). Ventspils yacht dock offers a docking zone that is 110 m in length and 3.5 m in depth. The tides are insignificant, but the water level fluctuations depend on the wind conditions and it can change by 0.3 m above and below the average.
